The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a strong defection warning ahead of the 2027 general elections.
PDP defection warning came from Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum, the Acting National Chairman, during a press briefing Wednesday.
Damagum emphasized that the PDP remains united and resilient despite internal tensions and mounting political pressure from opponents.
He declared that any member undermining the party would face consequences under the PDP defection warning directive.
Addressing journalists, Damagum accused the ruling APC of coercing PDP members to defect using threats and inducements.
According to Damagum, the 2027 elections would reflect voters’ will, not manipulative tactics from the APC-led government.
He criticized the APC’s failure on national issues like hunger, insecurity, and arbitrary treatment of citizens across Nigeria.
Damagum described the PDP defection warning as necessary to preserve party loyalty, structure, and ideological consistency.
He urged PDP members to remain committed and avoid actions that could weaken the party before upcoming elections.
Damagum added that defection from PDP reflects temporary disillusionment, not a loss of faith in the party’s mission.
He advised potential defectors to reconsider, stating PDP offers unmatched unity, history, and grassroots strength nationwide.
The Acting Chairman reaffirmed PDP’s democratic values, emphasizing policies aimed at empowering ordinary Nigerians equitably.
He stated that PDP would continue leading with integrity, accountability, and a strong vision for Nigeria’s future.
Damagum called on all PDP members to serve as ambassadors and resist efforts to destabilize the party internally.
He noted the next NEC meeting scheduled for July 23-25 would advance the party’s 2027 electoral preparations.
