Governor Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir, the chairman of the Governors Forum for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), emphasized the need for the party to strengthen its unity as it prepares for the 2027 general elections. He made this statement during a visit from the PDP Board of Trustees at the government house in Bauchi.
Governor Mohammed highlighted that the party must work to reduce conflicts and divisions among its members. He stressed that if party leaders respect the rule of law and each other while putting aside personal interests, the PDP can recover and become strong again.
He stated, “As elders of the party, your role is crucial in showing our unity and strength. I appreciate your visit today, especially after the National Working Committee’s visit yesterday. It’s a good coincidence that we are all discussing the party’s future.”
The governor noted that during discussions with the National Working Committee (NWC), there was a consensus among governors on key issues. “I cannot speak without the support of the governors. We will work to bring everyone together, and I appreciate your efforts in addressing problems within the party.”
He continued, “In our democracy, we cannot impose decisions. The NWC is the main administrative body of the party, and we must ensure fairness and respect our constitution.”
Earlier, the Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees and former Senate President, Adolphus Wabara, expressed concern over the current issues facing the party.
“We are not happy with the situation in the PDP, and we believe that Nigerians share our concerns. A few months ago, we wanted to take action, but we hesitated, thinking it would overlap with other functions. Unfortunately, the problems have continued.”
Wabara acknowledged the previous decisions made and stressed the importance of acting now to address the issues that have arisen. “We know how to solve problems within the PDP. We will not allow divisions to harm the party. We understand what we are facing.”
The discussions focused on addressing crises in the party, particularly in Rivers State and within the National Working Committee. Both leaders are committed to working together to restore unity and guide the party effectively as they look ahead to the upcoming elections.
