UMUAHIA, ABIA STATE– The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially invited Abia State Governor Alex Otti to join its ranks. Specifically, the party offered him an automatic governorship ticket for the 2027 general elections. Senator Adolphus Wabara, the Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT), made this revelation on Sunday in Umuahia.
Wabara spoke during the unveiling of the Abia State 25-Year Development Plan. He described the Governor as a formidable political actor whose performance has earned nationwide respect. Consequently, the PDP is ready to support his second-term bid if he chooses to defect. “If he makes up his mind to join the Big Umbrella, the party will not hesitate to give him the ticket,” Wabara stated.
The BoT chairman noted that Otti’s tangible results now outweigh party affiliations. Notably, Wabara previously faced criticism for praising Otti’s reconstruction of the federal Port Harcourt Road in Aba. He now feels vindicated as citizens celebrate the evidence of good governance. Furthermore, Wabara argued that the PDP provides a stronger national structure than the Labour Party.
Why the PDP wants Abia State Governor Alex Otti:
- Infrastructure Record: His performance makes him an asset to any political platform.
- National Spread: The PDP offers the reach needed to withstand 2027 election pressures.
- Governance Blueprint: His new 25-year plan aligns with long-term development goals.
The Future of Abia State Governor Alex Otti and the 2027 Polls
Wabara urged the Governor to consider the move seriously. He cited the ongoing leadership challenges within the Labour Party as a significant risk. Indeed, a platform with a national spread is crucial for resisting political intimidation. Ultimately, the PDP aims to reposition itself as a credible alternative by attracting high-performing leaders.
Governor Otti recently signed the Abia State 25-Year Development Plan into law. This landmark policy targets economic resilience and social infrastructure through 2050. Additionally, the plan received praise from international partners like the UNDP. Clearly, Otti’s focus on long-term planning has made him the most courted governor in the South-East.
