The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has issued a stern warning to politicians and individuals in the South-East
region against misappropriating the N250bn allocated for the newly established South-East Development
Commission.
In a statement released on Sunday, IPOB’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful, emphasized that the funds should be used
exclusively for the development of the region. Powerful noted that the South-East is in dire need of developmental
initiatives and infrastructure projects to improve the lives of its people.
The IPOB spokesperson highlighted key areas where the funds should be directed, including road construction and
expansion, rehabilitation of federal hospitals, establishment of new healthcare facilities, and the construction of
power plants to provide affordable and reliable electricity.
Powerful warned that IPOB would closely monitor the activities of the South-East Development Commission and hold
accountable any individual or group found guilty of mismanaging the funds.
The IPOB spokesperson also cautioned against politicians diverting the funds for personal gain through extravagant
seminars, unnecessary conferences, or foreign trips under dubious pretenses.

Powerful emphasized that the success or failure of the South-East Development Commission would rest on the
shoulders of Igbo leaders, including Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Dr.
Benjamin Kalu, and SEDC Chairman Dr. Emeka Nworgu.
IPOB reiterated that any individual found guilty of mismanaging the funds would face serious consequences. The
group also warned that it would not hesitate to expose any corrupt activities and hold accountable those who work
against the interests of the South-East region.
The South-East Development Commission was established to address the region’s developmental challenges and
provide a framework for coordinated development. The commission is expected to work closely with state
governments, local governments, and other stakeholders to identify and prioritize development projects.
In conclusion, IPOB’s warning serves as a reminder of the need for transparency and accountability in the
management of public funds. The group’s emphasis on the importance of using the funds for the development of the
South-East region is a call to action for leaders to prioritize the needs of their people.
