The death toll from recent gunmen attacks in Plateau State has tragically risen to 52, following violent assaults on
several communities in the Bokkos Local Government Area. The attack, which took place on the night of April 2, 2025,
has left behind devastation, with 40 additional bodies recovered over the past two days.
Bokkos Cultural Development Council Vanguard Chairman, Farmasum Fuddang, confirmed that a mass burial was
conducted for 31 victims, and five underage children were reported burned beyond recognition in Hurti village. The
killings also spread across Ruwi, Manguna, and Dafo villages, further intensifying the loss.
The attacks, which targeted Mangor Tamiso, Daffo, Manguna (Tagai), Hurti, and Tadai communities, have left local
residents in shock and mourning. Witnesses describe the horror of the events, as armed assailants stormed the
villages in the dead of night, firing indiscriminately.
The security forces have launched extensive operations in the region, combing through dense bushes to locate
missing persons and identify the perpetrators. In response to the violence, the Plateau State Government has swiftly
condemned the attacks. Mrs. Joyce Ramnap, the state’s Commissioner for Information and Communications,
expressed her condolences to the families of those affected.

She assured the public that the government was committed to bringing the responsible individuals to justice and
preventing further bloodshed in the region. The state has increased its security presence, with law enforcement
agencies working to restore order and prevent retaliatory violence.
Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau has promised that his administration will spare no effort in ensuring the safety
of all residents. Security agencies have made arrests linked to the attacks, and more are expected as the
investigation continues. The government has also emphasized the need for citizens to exercise restraint and cooperate with security personnel to prevent further violence.
In addition to bolstering law enforcement measures, the state has deployed additional resources for intelligence
gathering, rapid response teams, and enhanced surveillance. Community leaders are also being called upon to preach
peace, discourage violence, and promote lawful behavior among their constituents.
