Borno Governor Allocates Funds to Enhance Primary Healthcare Centers

Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has allocated more than N209.8 million to support 170 primary healthcare centers across the state’s 27 local government areas. This significant investment aims to improve healthcare services and infrastructure throughout Borno State.

On Monday, a ceremony was held at the multi-purpose hall of the Government House in Maiduguri, where Governor Zulum symbolically presented cheques to selected healthcare facilities from each of the state’s three senatorial zones. The event highlighted the governor’s commitment to enhancing healthcare access for residents across the region.

Governor Zulum used the occasion to emphasize the importance of dedication and quality service at healthcare facilities. He urged facility managers and local government healthcare coordinators to fully commit to their responsibilities and ensure that the funds are used effectively to provide high-quality services to the people of Borno State.

“Healthcare is a shared responsibility,” Zulum stated. “As we invest in our healthcare infrastructure, I call upon our health workers, community leaders, and all stakeholders to work together to maximize the impact of these funds. It is crucial that we all collaborate to improve healthcare outcomes for our citizens.”

In addition to the immediate financial support, Governor Zulum announced plans to rehabilitate all primary healthcare centers across Borno State. This initiative aims to address existing challenges and upgrade facilities to better serve the community’s needs.

State Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Prof. Baba M. Gana, underscored the significance of the disbursement, describing it as a key part of Governor Zulum’s broader commitment to ensuring quality healthcare for all citizens. “This occasion represents a major milestone in our collective efforts to provide quality healthcare services across the state. Governor Zulum has approved N209,819,306 specifically for the two healthcare gateways (BOSPHCDB & BOSCHMA), which underscores our dedication to strengthening the healthcare system,” Prof. Gana said.

He added that the funds will greatly benefit primary and secondary healthcare facilities, helping to meet the healthcare needs of local communities more effectively.

Furthermore, Governor Zulum has instructed the 27 local government chairpersons to take charge of the primary healthcare centers within their jurisdictions. He emphasized that it is their responsibility to ensure these facilities operate at optimal levels and deliver excellent care.

“Going forward, all local government chairpersons should oversee the management of primary healthcare facilities in their areas. Where there are gaps, we will work together to address them and ensure our people receive the best care possible,” Zulum said.

The governor also directed the State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (BOSPHCDB) and the Borno State Contributory Health Management Agency (BOSCHMA) to work closely with local government chairpersons. They are to provide detailed reports on the allocation of funds to healthcare centers in each local government area, ensuring transparency and accountability in the distribution process.

This comprehensive approach aims to enhance the overall quality and accessibility of healthcare services across Borno State, reflecting Governor Zulum’s commitment to improving public health and well-being in the region.
