Nigerian Baptist Convention Urges Public Officials to Focus on Citizens’ Welfare

The Nigerian Baptist Convention has issued a strong call to all public officeholders, urging them to prioritize the welfare of citizens, particularly during these challenging times in Nigeria. This appeal was made by Dr. Soye Asawo, the national president of the Men’s Missionary Union (MMU) of the Nigerian Baptist Convention, during a recent courtesy visit to Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori in Asaba.

Dr. Asawo emphasized the critical role of leadership in addressing the current hardships faced by Nigerians. “Our message to Your Excellency is to ensure that the suffering of Nigerians remains at the forefront of your leadership agenda. It is crucial to remember that you have been placed in this leadership position at a time when your actions can significantly impact the lives of many. You have the opportunity to be a beacon of hope and a solution to the pressing needs of the people,” Asawo said.

The visit also highlighted the theme of this year’s convention, which is being held in Asaba, Delta State. The theme, “Wonders Without Numbers,” reflects the belief in the remarkable and limitless power of God to achieve the extraordinary in the lives of His people. The convention aims to inspire and reinforce faith among attendees, demonstrating the profound impact of divine intervention and support.

In his response, Governor Oborevwori expressed his gratitude for the choice of Asaba as the host city for the 44th convention. He commended Dr. Asawo and the MMU for their trust in Delta State, praising the peaceful and harmonious environment of the state. “We are honored to host the convention in Asaba and appreciate the positive feedback about our state. Our goal is to maintain this peaceful and serene atmosphere, which we believe is essential for the success of such significant events,” Oborevwori stated.

Governor Oborevwori also touched on the state’s traditions and commitment to faith. He highlighted the annual Praise and Prayer Day held on May 29th as a mark of honor and dedication to God. This tradition, he explained, has been a cornerstone of the state’s approach to fostering peace and unity.

“Our dedication to this tradition is a reflection of our commitment to maintaining a peaceful environment and seeking divine guidance for our governance. We believe that with the continued support and prayers from our faith leaders and the community, we can achieve more for the people of Delta State,” he added.

The governor also reassured the public of the state government’s ongoing efforts to enhance the well-being of its citizens. He acknowledged the role of faith leaders in supporting the government’s initiatives and emphasized the collaborative efforts needed to overcome the challenges faced by the state and the nation as a whole.

The meeting between Dr. Asawo and Governor Oborevwori served as a reminder of the importance of faith, leadership, and community support in addressing the needs of the people during difficult times.
