The Nigerian Air Force, as part of Operation “Hadin Kai,” has successfully carried out a major airstrike in Arina, Southern Tumbuns, Borno State. This operation resulted in the deaths of five prominent terrorist leaders and over 35 of their fighters, marking a significant achievement in the fight against terrorism in the Northeast region of Nigeria.
AVM Edward Gabkwet, the Director of Public Relations and Information for the Nigerian Air Force, shared details of the operation in a statement released on Wednesday from Abuja. The airstrike, which occurred on August 16, was a decisive action against key figures in the terrorist network.
The five key commanders who were eliminated in the airstrike include Munzir Arika, Sani Dilla (also known as Dan Hausawan Jubillaram), Ameer Modu, Dan Fulani Fari Fari, and Bakoura Arina Chiki. These individuals were identified as leading figures in the terrorist operations that have been causing unrest and violence in the region.
Gabkwet emphasized that the goal of the airstrike was to weaken the remaining terrorist factions, ensure the safety of civilians, and support the efforts of the Nigerian Armed Forces. Prior to the operation, intelligence reports indicated that terrorists were moving into the area from neighboring regions, preparing for further attacks.
The Nigerian Air Force conducted Confirmatory Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance missions on August 12 and August 15. These missions were crucial in identifying the locations and structures used by the terrorists, which were hidden under tree cover. This detailed intelligence allowed for precise and effective airstrikes.
During the operation, the airstrikes targeted and successfully destroyed several terrorist positions. The assault led to the obliteration of key equipment, vehicles, water vessels, and a suspected medical dispensary used by the terrorists. The extensive damage inflicted on these assets is expected to disrupt the terrorists’ operations significantly.
The Battle Damage Assessment following the airstrikes confirmed that the operation had neutralized several terrorists and severely affected their infrastructure. The intelligence gathered also revealed that the five senior terrorist leaders were either killed or critically injured in the strikes.
Gabkwet noted that this successful operation has greatly diminished the operational capabilities of the remaining terrorist groups in the Northeast. The Nigerian Air Force remains committed to collaborating with other security agencies to ensure the security and stability of the region. Their ongoing efforts are focused on eradicating terrorist threats and restoring peace to affected areas.
Overall, this airstrike represents a crucial step forward in the fight against terrorism in Nigeria, demonstrating the Nigerian Air Force’s ability to deliver decisive blows against terrorist networks and contribute to regional security efforts.
