The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially announced an increase in passport fees, with the new rates set to take effect on September 1, 2024. This decision was communicated by Kenneth Udo, the spokesperson for the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), through a statement released on Wednesday.
The adjustment in passport fees is part of a broader effort by the Nigerian government to ensure that the quality and security of the Nigerian passport remain high. According to the statement, the fee for a 32-page passport booklet with a five-year validity will increase from the previous amount of N35,000 to N50,000. Similarly, the fee for a 64-page passport booklet, which is valid for ten years, will see a rise from N70,000 to N100,000. This increase is intended to cover the costs associated with the extended validity period and the additional security measures that come with the larger booklet.
It is important to note that these new fees will not apply to passports issued abroad. The costs for obtaining a Nigerian passport outside Nigeria will remain unchanged.
