Troops from the I Division of the Nigerian Army have achieved a significant victory in Kaduna State by neutralizing one terrorist and recovering a range of weapons and equipment. This successful operation took place on August 25 and was detailed in a statement issued by Lt.-Col. Musa Yahaya, the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for the I Division.
The troops were engaged in clearance operations in several areas, including Sabon Birni, Dogon Dawa, Maidaro, Ngede Alpha, and Rafin Kaji. These areas have been known hotspots for terrorist activities. During these operations, the soldiers encountered a group of terrorists.
The confrontation quickly escalated into a firefight. The Nigerian Army troops, demonstrating their superior combat skills and determination, managed to overpower and eliminate one of the terrorists. The remaining terrorists, unable to withstand the force of the army, fled the scene. It is suspected that some of them may have been injured by gunfire during the encounter.
In addition to neutralizing a terrorist, the troops made several important recoveries. They seized four AK-47 magazines, three of which were fully loaded with a total of 60 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition. The fourth magazine was empty. They also recovered a PKT belt containing 86 rounds of ammunition.
This indicates that the terrorists were well-armed and prepared for prolonged engagements. Furthermore, the troops confiscated two motorcycles, one of which was destroyed during the operation, and a variety of electronic items including a Techno mobile phone and a Baofeng handheld radio.
Additionally, they found an Airtel recharge card valued at N5,000, which was likely intended for communication purposes among the terrorists.
Major Gen. Mayirenso Saraso, the General Officer Commanding I Division and Commander of “Operation WHIRL PUNCH,” praised the troops for their effective and successful operation. He commended their bravery and efficiency in executing the mission. The General Officer emphasized the need for continued vigilance and encouraged the soldiers to intensify their efforts to make life increasingly difficult for terrorists and their collaborators within the Division’s area of responsibility.
Major Gen. Saraso also expressed his gratitude to the residents of Kaduna, Kano, Niger, and Jigawa States for their ongoing support and cooperation. He urged the local communities to continue working closely with the army and other security agencies. To facilitate this cooperation, he reminded the public to utilize the division’s Toll-Free Line, “0800 002 0204.” This line is available for reporting actionable intelligence and providing information that could assist in further offensive operations against criminal elements in the region.
This operation underscores the Nigerian Army’s commitment to combating terrorism and ensuring the safety and security of the region. The successes of this mission contribute to the broader efforts to stabilize and protect communities from insurgent threats.
