The Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Enforcement Agency Task Force has successfully apprehended four individuals suspected of being involved in the attack on a Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) bus on August 13. This action follows a violent incident that left passengers distressed and the bus severely damaged.

According to CSP Tayo Akerele, the Chairman of the Task Force, the attack occurred while the BRT bus was en route from Orile-Iganmu to Alaba Suru. At a press conference held in Lagos on Wednesday, Akerele provided details of the incident, explaining that the bus, which was identified as having the number 240216, was targeted by criminals while traveling from Mile 2 Terminal to Lagos Island. The attack took place near Alaba Suru.

The suspects now in custody include Ilesanmi Kazeem, Ibrahim Lawal, Daniel Abati, and Mohammed Ali. They are believed to be responsible for the violent act that involved robbing the bus passengers of their belongings and vandalizing the vehicle. The crime was particularly shocking because it happened in broad daylight, making it a bold and concerning act of aggression.

Akerele highlighted the government’s firm stance against such acts of violence and vandalism. He emphasized that the authorities are committed to bringing those responsible to justice. “We have a zero-tolerance policy for destructive acts,” Akerele stated. “By prosecuting these offenders, we aim to deter others from committing similar crimes. It’s important that we address these issues decisively to maintain public safety.”

ACP Emmanuel Oyewole of the Lagos Command also addressed the media, confirming that the suspects were apprehended following a thorough raid by Task Force personnel in the area where the attack occurred. Oyewole expressed regret over the suffering of the passengers who were attacked, robbed, and injured during the incident. He stressed that such criminal behavior will not be tolerated by the government.

“Currently, we have detained four individuals. Mohammad Ali, who is 30 years old, has provided information about the other suspects involved in this crime,” Oyewole explained. “The attack carried out in broad daylight, is highly condemnable. We are determined to bring all those involved to justice, and once our investigation is complete, they will be charged in court.”

The Task Force’s swift action in arresting the suspects aims to reassure the public that efforts are being made to enhance safety and address criminal activities in Lagos. The commitment to prosecute the offenders serves as a message to potential criminals that such actions will be met with serious legal consequences.
