Heineken Lokpobiri, the Minister of State for Petroleum, has assured Nigerians that petrol will become widely available by the weekend. This announcement comes amid ongoing concerns about fuel shortages and rising prices, which have been causing significant hardship for citizens.

On Thursday, Lokpobiri addressed the press shortly after a critical meeting with Vice President Kashim Shettima. The Vice President called the meeting on the direction of President Muhammadu Buhari to discuss the fuel supply situation across the country.

Lokpobiri’s remarks provided much-needed clarity and reassurance about the government’s plans to address the fuel crisis.
During the briefing, Lokpobiri explained that the meeting was convened to give the Vice President and, by extension, the President a comprehensive update on the current fuel supply issues.

The President is reported to be very concerned about the difficulties Nigerians are experiencing due to fuel shortages and the resultant impact on daily life and the economy. The meeting aimed to explore solutions and provide the President with accurate information to make informed decisions.

Lokpobiri emphasized that the President’s intervention underscores his commitment to alleviating the current hardships faced by many Nigerians. The government’s focus is on increasing the availability of petrol, which is expected to lead to improvements in supply by the weekend. This effort is crucial for ensuring that fuel is accessible to consumers nationwide.

The Minister also addressed concerns about fuel prices, acknowledging that prices may remain high in certain areas due to local supply and demand factors. He explained that while some regions might experience higher costs, the overall availability of petrol should contribute to stabilizing prices across the country.

Lokpobiri clarified that the government does not control fuel prices directly because the sector is deregulated. Instead, market dynamics will influence pricing, and increased supply is anticipated to lead to more stable and predictable fuel costs.

In addition to addressing supply issues, Lokpobiri highlighted that the government is working on improving distribution networks to ensure that petrol reaches all regions efficiently. This is part of a broader strategy to mitigate the impact of fuel shortages and provide relief to consumers.

The Minister of State for Petroleum reassured the public that the situation with fuel supply will see notable improvement by the weekend. While prices may fluctuate in different areas, the government’s efforts to enhance availability are expected to lead to more stable pricing and alleviate the current fuel crisis. This development aims to provide much-needed relief to Nigerians who have been struggling with the challenges of fuel shortages.
