Former PDP Assembly Candidate Akinsola Jimoh Moves to APC

Dr. Akinsola Jimoh, a prominent figure in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State, has made a significant political shift. Along with over 600 of his supporters, Jimoh has defected from the PDP to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in anticipation of the governorship election scheduled for November 16. This move is expected to have a substantial impact on the political landscape of the state.

Jimoh, who was the PDP candidate for the Okitipupa Constituency 1 during the 2023 general election, officially joined the APC at a well-attended event held at the St. Pius Catholic field in Igbotako Ward two. The occasion was marked by speeches and a show of support from various APC leaders and members, reflecting the party’s enthusiasm about the new addition.

Among the notable figures present at the event were:
• Pastor Segun Aiyerin, the Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, extended a warm welcome to Jimoh and his supporters.
• Alhaji Amidu Takuro, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, represented Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa at the event.
• Hon. Chris Ayebusiwa, the current House of Assembly member for Okitipupa Constituency 1, who expressed optimism about the potential benefits of Jimoh’s arrival to the APC.
• Igbekele Akinriwa, the APC Chairman of Okitipupa Local Government Area, who praised Jimoh’s decision and his significant following.

• Hon. Abiodun Owonola (Equity), the Acting Chairman of Ikale North Local Council Development Area, who also attended and supported Jimoh’s transition.
• Hon. Niyi Adebusoye, a former member of the State House of Assembly, and Idowu Edema, the Special Assistant to the Governor, who both offered their support and congratulated Jimoh on his new political affiliation.

In his address, Commissioner Takuro, speaking on behalf of the state governor, highlighted the importance of Jimoh’s move to the APC. He commended Jimoh for his leadership and ability to attract such a large group of supporters, emphasizing that this transition is a testament to his influential role as a grassroots politician. Takuro assured Jimoh and his supporters of full recognition and support within the APC, signaling a welcoming environment for their integration into the party.

Takuro also took the opportunity to encourage voters to support the APC and the governor in the upcoming election. He argued that the election would be a chance to validate the governor’s achievements across various sectors of the state and reinforce the APC’s position in Ondo.

The shift of Dr. Jimoh and his supporters to the APC is anticipated to bring a notable boost to the party’s campaign efforts. It reflects a broader political realignment in the state as the election approaches, potentially influencing voter sentiment and party dynamics leading up to November 16.
