The Edo State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has announced the arrest of two individuals suspected of political thuggery and possessing firearms in Edo State, as the residents prepare to vote for a new governor on Saturday, September 21.
According to the police, one of the apprehended individuals is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from Ugbogbo quarters, Igara Akoko. The police further revealed that the arrests were made after intelligence indicated that some individuals had been equipped with firearms to disrupt the election.
The police’s swift action and the seizure of the weapons, including three locally fabricated pistols and one locally made gun, these arrests demonstrate the force’s commitment to curbing electoral violence and ensuring a peaceful electoral process in Edo State.
The authorities have issued a stern statement warning the general public that acts of violence and disorder will not be permitted during the ongoing elections in Edo State.
