EPL: ‘Bad day for Ten Hag’ – Gary Neville on Man Utd’s 3-0 defeat to Tottenham

Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville labeled Sunday as a “bad day” for manager Erik Ten Hag after the team faced a disappointing 3-0 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford.

This loss not only marks United’s second consecutive defeat but also highlights a concerning trend of underperformance, as the team have yet to score a goal at home this season.

The match began poorly for Manchester United, with Brennan Johnson putting Tottenham ahead in the first half. His goal seemed to set the tone for the rest of the game.

Following the break, Tottenham continued to dominate, with Dejan Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke each adding to the scoreline.

Their clinical finishing showcased the stark difference in quality between the two sides.

Neville expressed his frustration and concern over the team’s performance. “The pressure is going to get ramped up this week—it is going to be brutal,” he stated.

His remarks reflect the mounting scrutiny Ten Hag is likely to face after such a dismal display.

“It has been a bad day for Ten Hag, really bad. It’s one of the worst performances I have seen under him—and that is saying something,” Neville continued.

The sense of urgency is palpable, as fans and analysts alike begin to question the team’s direction.

In the post-match analysis, Neville emphasized the significance of the first half, where United appeared disorganized and lacking in motivation.

While some fans directed their frustration towards the referee, Neville argued that this only scratched the surface of the problems facing the team.

“The big story was that first half—it was not from nowhere—but they have chosen to put in their very worst performance,” he noted.
The criticism did not end there. Neville described the overall effort as “disgusting,” highlighting the lack of intensity and quality that has become increasingly alarming.

He pointed out that such performances raise numerous questions about the squad’s commitment and capability.

“There are a lot of questions to answer from that group in the next week,” he asserted, indicating that the players must reflect on their roles and responsibilities moving forward.

Tottenham, on the other hand, displayed outstanding teamwork and strategy, leaving no room for United to mount any serious challenge.

Their quick transitions and effective pressing put the Red Devils on the back foot from the very start. The victory serves as a reminder of Tottenham’s potential, while Manchester United continues to grapple with its own issues.

As Manchester United prepares for their next match, the pressure on Ten Hag and his players will only intensify. Fans will be looking for signs of improvement and a response to the disappointing performance.

The coming week will be crucial, not just for Ten Hag’s future but also for the team’s morale and ambitions this season.
