The Senate has successfully passed a bill aimed at establishing a Federal University of Applied Sciences in Kachia, located in Kaduna State.
This legislative development came after the Senate adopted a comprehensive report presented by the Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFUND during the plenary session held on Tuesday.
During the session, the chair of the committee, Mohammed Muntari, who represents the APC party from Katsina, took the floor to deliver the report.
He emphasized the strong support for the establishment of the Federal University of Applied Sciences expressed by various stakeholders during a public hearing dedicated to this initiative.
Mr. Muntari articulated the vision behind the proposed university, stating that it would play a crucial role in imparting scientific knowledge essential for addressing and mitigating environmental hazards.
He also highlighted that the institution would provide students with valuable exposure to professional studies in technology, thereby preparing them for future challenges.
He explained, “The hallmark of the proposed Federal University of Applied Sciences is to produce graduates well equipped with practical and theoretical grounded knowledge in technology, applied science, commerce, and management.”
This educational framework is designed to cultivate graduates who are not only knowledgeable but also adept at navigating complex issues.
Furthermore, Mr. Muntari asserted that the university’s establishment would contribute to alleviating various challenges related to productivity, data management, cost benefits, marketing strategies, and security threats that currently plague society.
He remarked, “This will reduce risks and challenge of productivity, data and information, cost benefits, marketing and security bedeviling humanity.”
The senator believes that creating this institution will help address the negative impacts on the national economy and diminish the likelihood of criminal activities carried out by nefarious elements in society.
Mr. Muntari also underscored the transformative potential of the knowledge and skills that graduates will acquire through this initiative.
He stated that these competencies will expand and deepen the graduates’ understanding of information management, which is vital for national development.
He noted that this endeavor will promote national integration and foster social progress among Nigeria’s diverse and youthful population, who are eager to gain skills in information, economics, and science management.
In light of these compelling arguments, he urged his fellow senators to give due consideration to the report and approve the proposed legislation.
In addition to this landmark bill, the Senate also passed another important piece of legislation during the plenary session, which pertains to the establishment of the Federal University of Technology Ilaro in Ogun State.
This action was taken after the adoption of the committee’s report regarding Tertiary Institutions and TETFUND, further highlighting the Senate’s commitment to enhancing the nation’s educational infrastructure.
