The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has been appointed as the Chairman of the National Campaign Council established by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to spearhead its efforts in the forthcoming Ondo State governorship election. The announcement, made on Thursday by APC’s National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Argungu, comes as the party ramps up preparations for the election scheduled for November 16.
Sanwo-Olu, known for his governance experience in Lagos, will lead a robust 305-member council, tasked with driving campaign activities and strategising for victory in Ondo State. He will be supported by former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, who has been appointed as the council’s secretary. Together, they are expected to marshal resources and provide leadership as APC seeks to consolidate its influence in the region.
In addition to Sanwo-Olu and Omo-Agege, the campaign council includes key figures in the party, such as Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma, Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume. These prominent leaders are anticipated to bring their political expertise to bear, offering support across various aspects of the campaign.
The APC National Working Committee, led by Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, approved the campaign council’s composition, emphasising the party’s commitment to maintaining its position in Ondo. The council’s inauguration ceremony is set to take place on October 28 at the International Event Centre (The Dome) in Akure, where campaign strategies and operational roles will be officially rolled out.
With the inclusion of other influential politicians such as Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum, and former officials including Chief Olusola Oke and General Abdulrahman Dambazau (Rtd), the APC has signalled its serious approach to the Ondo election. This high-powered lineup underscores the party’s strategic investment in securing the state’s leadership position.
