The Federal Capital Territory FCT Police Command has announced plans to collaborate more closely with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) in tackling rising security challenges in Abuja. This development was shared by the Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, during an emergency meeting and the inauguration of a CJTF operational office in the capital. Represented by the APO District Police Officer, Mr. Usman A. Abini, the Commissioner acknowledged the CJTF’s crucial role in filling manpower gaps within the police force.
“The challenges that we’ve always had in terms of manpower and visibility are always bridged by the presence of the CJTF,” Abini stated. He emphasized the commitment of the FCT Police Command to work hand-in-hand with the CJTF across operational, administrative, and community-orientated areas to boost security measures for residents.
The collaboration between the CJTF and the police has been especially impactful in joint nighttime patrols in the APO district and other parts of Abuja. This partnership, according to the Commissioner, has been vital in deterring crime and enhancing security across key areas of the capital. “The CJTF is very close to the members of the public, which has been invaluable in our operations,” Abini noted, underscoring the importance of the CJTF’s community engagement and intelligence-gathering efforts.

Speaking at the event, the National Chairman of the Civilian Joint Task Force of Nigeria (CJTFN), Prof. Muhammed Kailami, stressed the significance of unity and security for the nation. “Nigeria’s unity is a task that must be done, and that is what we are after,” Kailami said. He highlighted that CJTF members work on a voluntary basis with both the police and military, underscoring the selflessness and dedication of the task force.
Kailami expressed optimism that the government would eventually formalise the CJTF’s role by providing necessary resources, including salaries and equipment. With this strengthened partnership, both the FCT Police and CJTF aim to reassure residents of their commitment to making Abuja a safer place.
