In a very sad development, a male police inspector serving in the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad of the Enugu State Police Command has been arrested and detained after allegedly shooting and killing a male traditional Ogene musician, Okezie Chikezie Mba, popularly known as Igbo-Jah.
Reports gathered revealed that the traditional musician was leaving the squad’s headquarters after a friendly visit when, for reasons yet to be ascertained, the police officer fired his rifle, hitting the victim.
The police, through its Police Public Relations Officer, Enugu State Command, State Headquarters, Enugu. DSP Daniel Ndukwe narrated the musician was reportedly leaving the squad’s headquarters after a friendly visit when, for reasons yet to be ascertained, the police officer fired his rifle, hitting the victim.
“On October 25, 2024, at approximately 8:10 p.m., the incident took place in the headquarters of the Tactical Squad,” the police PRO confirmed.
He was taken to the hospital right away, where the attending physician pronounced him dead. His remains have been placed in the mortuary for examination and preservation.
In a similar development, the Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, PSC (+), has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State CID to conduct a full-scale investigation that will facilitate prompt and appropriate disciplinary actions against the police officer.
The Commissioner expressed sympathy and comfort to the victim’s friends, family, and coworkers, calling the regrettable event intolerable.
To act as a deterrent, he promised that the police officer and anybody else found guilty will face legal repercussions.
To guarantee that justice is done, CP Kanayo asked everyone who had any connection to the victim to maintain their composure and assist the police.
