TCN confirms frantic efforts to Restore Power In Northern Nigeria

On Sunday, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) declared that it is making every effort to bring power back to Northern Nigeria.The company express confidence that bulk power supply would be restored as quickly as possible despite prevailing security challenges.

According to a statement released by the company’s spokesperson, Ndidi Mbah,TCN is collaborating with the Office of the National Security Adviser to fix the damaged Shiroro-Kaduna line, which resulted in the reduction of bulk energy to Kaduna, Kano, and other northern important cities, 

Despite the ongoing security issues, Mbah, TCN’s general manager of public affairs, is optimistic that the bulk power supply would be restored as soon as feasible.

TCN through it signed release stated that it is working diligently to restore bulk power supply as quickly as possible despite prevailing security challenges

“The Shiroro-Kaduna transmission line, which supplies power to Northern Nigeria, was vandalized by insurgents & in response, TCN has partnered with the National Security Adviser’s office to secure the area, enabling her engineers to work safely on the restoration.”

TCN Executive Director (Independent System Operator), Engr. (Mrs.) Nafisatu Ali, quoted  in the statement, said that, considering the threats in the area, it is not practical to deploy engineers without security support.

She refuted any notion that the restoration would last forever, emphasising that security preparations were in place and that TCN’s attention was still on guaranteeing a steady supply of electricity across the country.

“The current outage affecting Northern states for several days now is a result of vandalism of the Shiroro-Mando transmission line, a critical infrastructure that supplies electricity to the region. Prevailing insecurity in the area has delayed the immediate repair necessary to restore supply.

TCN in a bid to take temporary measure rerouted bulk power supply through the Ugwuaji-Apir 330kV line, which recently snapped. According to them, they have been collaborating closely with the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) to work with our engineers to access the vandalism site to enable them to effect necessary repairs. This according to the statement is vital to ensure the safety of lives during the repairs
