In the Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State, more than ten traditional and community leaders have stepped down from their roles.
The state’s APC has divided into two groups, one led by Aliyu Wamakko and the other by Ibrahim Lamido, as a result of an internal crisis.
In order to free the eastern region of Sokoto from the bonds of poverty, insecurity, and educational backwardness, more than ten of them and their supporters chose to step down and set up camp with Senator Ibrahim Lamido of Sokoto East, according to Jamilu Gobir, a spokesman for the leaders and the Ubandoma of Sarkin Gobir.
Beyond politics, he continued, the eastern Sokoto region desperately needs intentional initiatives to free it economically. Banditry has been disrupting socio-economic activity in the area for a number of years.
An internal crisis within the Sokoto State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has split the party into two factions, one led by Senator Lamido and another led by Senator Aliyu Wamakko (Sokoto North), a former governor of the state and mentor to Governor Ahmed Aliyu.
About 40 Lamido-supporting APC members have quit their jobs under Governor Aliyu since the crisis started in order to demonstrate their loyalty to the federal congressman they saw as the party’s leader.
