The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a warning to Nigerians about a recall of Nivea Black & White Invisible Roll-on deodorant, 50ml. The recall was prompted by the European Union Rapid Alert System for Dangerous Non-food Products in Brussels, which identified health risks associated with the product, specifically marketed as offering 48-hour protection in African climates. NAFDAC’s alert, released on Thursday, specified the affected batch number as 93529610.
According to NAFDAC, the recalled deodorant contains 2-(4-tert-Butylbenzyl) propionaldehyde, a banned chemical in cosmetics due to its potential to harm reproductive health, affect unborn children, and cause skin irritation or burns. The product, manufactured in Germany, carries a Bar Code Number 42299882. The agency advised the public to avoid using, selling, or distributing the affected batch within Nigeria’s supply chain.
NAFDAC has urged importers, distributors, and retailers to remain cautious and vigilant to prevent the product’s circulation. Additionally, consumers possessing the affected batch are encouraged to halt use and submit any stock to the nearest NAFDAC office.
The agency also called on healthcare professionals and the public to report adverse reactions linked to regulated products. Reports can be made via email at pharmacovigilance@nafdac.gov.ng, through the agency’s website, or via the Med-safety app, available on both Android and iOS platforms.
