As the 2024 Ondo election draws closer, the Labour Party (LP) candidate in the election, Sola Ebiseni, claims two of the leading contenders in the exercise—Lucky Aiyedatiwa and Agboola Ajayi have nothing to offer the Ondo people.
The coming election would have Governor Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Ajayi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) slugging it out with Ebiseni and other candidates.
The LP’s candidate said he has the best propositions for the state and the people. It could be recalled that the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the same Ondo State governorship election, Agboola Ajayi, pointedly criticized the incumbent governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, in several areas of his policies and issues around accountability and transparency.
He also accused the incumbent of derailing from the vision regarding the establishment of the Amotekun security outfit, thereby destroying the legacy of the late governor Rotimi Akeredolu.
The PDP flag bearer had earlier alleged that the APC flag bearer allowed the structure of the security outfit to be rendered incapacitated, which according to him has led to the deterioration of security under Aiyedatiwa’s watch.
Aiyedatiwa, who insisted that he has done enough to enhance security in the state since taking office, said that Ondo State is currently regarded as one of the safest and most tranquil states in Nigeria. The incumbent also promised to consolidate on his achievements when elected into office.
Ajayi, however, took issue with the governor’s claim that Ondo is among the safest states in the nation. He asserts that a state cannot be considered safe if Obas and other notable individuals are often abducted.
The election is scheduled to hold on the 16 November 2024, as INEC has promised a level playing field.
