As the Ondo State governorship election approaches, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have expressed their support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa. Meeting with CAN leaders at St. David’s Anglican Cathedral in Akure, Aiyedatiwa pledged to lead with integrity and sought the community’s prayers for peace and fairness in the upcoming election.
Governor Aiyedatiwa emphasized his commitment to Christian values, stating, “I am one of you, a born-again Christian, and I understand the spiritual responsibilities that come with leadership. Pray for wisdom in governance and for the election to be peaceful and just.” CAN responded positively, with state chairman Rev. Fr. Anselm Ologunwa affirming CAN’s non-partisan stance and announcing a three-day prayer for peace and guidance, set to begin on November 10.
Meanwhile, the TUC has formally endorsed Aiyedatiwa’s re-election, citing his administration’s achievements, including a new minimum wage of N73,000, the recruitment of educators, and welfare improvements for civil servants. TUC Chairman Clement Fatuase acknowledged Aiyedatiwa’s dedication to workers’ welfare, describing his leadership as “excellent.”
In response, Aiyedatiwa expressed gratitude for the TUC’s backing, reaffirming his commitment to fair treatment and development-focused governance. The Ondo governorship election is scheduled for November 16, with Aiyedatiwa’s campaign gaining momentum through both religious and workers’ endorsement.
