Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has noted that the newly commissioned 9.76 km Ikot Eyo-Edem IdimOkpot-Mbiekene-NungObong-IkotNtung-EastWest Road would not be durable without the appropriate reclamation of a potential gully erosion site.
The governor, during the commissioning of the road infrastructure, assured of equitable distribution of projects across the state and due attention to the needs of Nsit Ubium people in the course of his administration.
During the road inauguration, the governor thanked the Nsit Ubium people for their patience and understanding as the administration spread development projects throughout the state, promising them they would not regret their support because their interests would be given the attention they deserve. The road connects the three neighbouring local government areas of Eket, Esit Eket and Ibesikpo-Asutan.
As part of its corporate social responsibility, he also praised Bulletine Construction Company Nigeria Ltd., the project contractor, for their hard work, punctuality, and willingness to go above and beyond in renovating the Ikot Eyo Community School and constructing a three-bedroom home for the principal.
The governor gave the people the assurance that roads that cross the local government area are included in the construction budget for 2025 and referred to his ascension as governor as the best Akwa Ibom project for Nsit Ubium.
He hinted that his administration has also made provision intentionally for the development of Afaha Offiong and Itreto in Nsit Ubium up to Nsit Ibom, adding that he identified the need to open up that axis too so that there will be improvement in commerce and traffic. “We will keep doing what we can to touch the lives of our people at the grassroots aswedevelopourstate,”the Governor assured.
In his presentation of the project, Professor Eno Ibanga, the Commissioner for Works and Fire Service, assured that the 9.76-kilometre road, which was completed with a 60-meter span bridge and spurs at Luke Avenue, Ikot Mbat, and Ndon Adiana, had been constructed in accordance with specifications. He also described the governor’s intervention on the road as a life-saver for several Nsit Ubium communities.
Numerous stakeholders in Nsit Ubium, such as Senator Effiong Bob, the political leader of the Uyo Senatorial District, Rt. Hon. Onofiok Luke, the former Speaker of the Akwa State Ibom State House of Assembly, Woman Leader Dr. Dora Bassey, Paramount Ruler Oku Ibom Ibibio, Ntenyin Solomon Etuk, and Hon. Alfred Charles, the chairman of the local government, all confirmed that the road prior to the intervention, which had shown the people a great deal of respite, was a deathtrap for children during the rainy season.
They thanked the governor for seeing that the project was finished, recalling that the road’s poor condition made farming and trade challenging.
In a vote of thanks, Chief Faysal Harb, the managing director of Bulletine Construction Company Nigeria Ltd, thanked the state government for believing in his business and the community for working with his employees. He also promised that his company would meet all project requirements.
