Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has approved a new minimum wage of N75,000 for state workers. This decision, announced in a statement by the state’s Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, marks a pivotal moment in the administration’s ongoing efforts to ensure social justice, enhance the standard of living for citizens, and promote economic growth within the state.
The approval came after the State Government received the report from the Public Service Negotiation Committee, which detailed recommendations for improving the pay structure of Osun State workers. The negotiation committee was headed by Kazeem Akinleye, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, while the labour team was led by Comrade Christopher Arapasopo, the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in the state.
Governor Adeleke’s decision to implement the N75,000 minimum wage is seen as part of a broader initiative to prioritize the welfare of the state’s civil servants. The Governor has consistently stressed the importance of improving the lives of those who serve the public, recognizing the vital role civil servants play in ensuring the smooth operation of state services.
Despite the challenges posed by limited resources, the Adeleke administration remains focused on fostering economic growth and raising the living standards of public servants, many of whom have long endured the pressures of low wages and inflation. The introduction of this new minimum wage reflects the state’s commitment to addressing economic disparities and creating a more equitable environment for all workers.
Governor Adeleke emphasized that the approval is in line with his administration’s vision for Osun State, which aims to enhance the quality of life for workers while also stimulating productivity in the public sector. By increasing the minimum wage, the Governor hopes to reduce the financial burden faced by civil servants and improve their morale, ultimately leading to greater efficiency in service delivery.
In the statement, Governor Adeleke highlighted the crucial role of civil servants in the development of Osun State. He acknowledged their tireless contributions, noting that they provide essential services despite the state’s financial constraints. The new wage is part of the Governor’s broader plan to show gratitude to public servants for their dedication while simultaneously encouraging them to continue innovating and seeking ways to improve the quality of public service.
Governor Adeleke further encouraged the workers to embrace a culture of excellence in their daily work, urging them to continually strive for innovative solutions to enhance public service delivery. He stressed that transparency and accountability are key to achieving the growth and development the state aspires to.
The Governor’s administration is dedicated to ensuring that Osun’s civil service operates with the highest standards of integrity, and that civil servants are equipped to meet the evolving demands of governance. The approval of the N75,000 minimum wage is a milestone in Osun State’s journey toward socio-economic development.
