President Bola Tinubu has formally requested the Senate to confirm Lieutenant General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede as the substantive Chief of Army Staff (COAS). Oluyede’s impressive military career spans over three decades. He was commissioned a second lieutenant in 1992, effective from 1987, and rose to Major-General in September 2020. His extensive experience in command positions, including platoon commander, company commander, and staff officer, makes him an ideal candidate for the role of Chief of Army Staff.
Before his appointment as Acting Chief of Army Staff, Oluyede served as the 56th Commander of the elite Infantry Corps of the Nigerian Army, based in Jaji, Kaduna. His leadership skills and experience in various fields of operations make him a strong contender for the top position.
Oluyede has participated in several operations, including the Economic Community of West African States Monitoring Group Mission in Liberia, Operation HARMONY IV in Bakassi, and Operation Hadin Kai in the North-East theatre of operations, where he commanded 27 Task Force Brigade.
For his meritorious service in various fields of operations, Oluyede has earned many honours, including the Corps Medal of Honour, the Grand Service Star, Passing the Staff Course, and Membership in the National Institute.
Oluyede’s impressive track record and numerous awards make him an excellent choice for the position of Chief of Army Staff. His experience and leadership skills will undoubtedly contribute to the stability and security of the nation.
The Senate is expected to review Oluyede’s nomination and confirm his appointment as the substantive Chief of Army Staff. This move is a significant step towards ensuring the stability and security of the nation.
