The nominees are Buba Ringim, a retired Deputy Inspector General of Police; Adamu Galumje, a retired Supreme Court Justice; Christine Dabup; and Abdulfatah Muhammed.
According to the letter read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during plenary, Tinubu said, “In accordance with the provisions of Section 154(1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, (as amended), I am pleased to present for confirmation by the Senate, the appointments of the under-listed four nominees as members of the Police Service Commission.”
Tinubu expressed hope that the Senate would consider and confirm the nominees in the usual expeditious manner. “While it is my hope that the Senate will consider and confirm the nominees in the usual expeditious manner, please accept, distinguished Senate President, the assurances of my highest consideration and personal regards,” he said.
In another letter, Tinubu sought the Senate’s confirmation of the appointments of three nominees as members of the Governing Board of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB). The nominees are Fatai Ibikunle, Kennedy Ikpeme, and Justice Ibrahim Buba.
Tinubu said, “In accordance with the provision of Sections 154(1) and paragraph 1(a) and (b) of part 1 to the Third Schedule of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), I am pleased to present, for confirmation by the Senate, the appointments of under-listed three nominees as members of the Code of Conduct Bureau.”
The Senate is expected to consider the nominations in the coming days. The confirmation of the nominees will be a significant step towards strengthening the Police Service Commission and the Code of Conduct Bureau.
The Police Service Commission is responsible for the appointment, promotion, and discipline of police officers. The Code of Conduct Bureau is responsible for enforcing the code of conduct for public officers.
The nominations are part of Tinubu’s efforts to strengthen the country’s institutions and promote good governance. The President has promised to work with the National Assembly to ensure that the nominations are confirmed quickly.
