The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has directed a thorough investigation into allegations of salary deductions affecting paramilitary officers in Nigeria. According to an online report, several officers raised concerns about unauthorized deductions made from their salaries by the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS), as well as delays in the payment of promotion arrears.
In a statement released on Sunday, Ahmed Ja’afaru, the Secretary of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Services Board, confirmed that an investigation into the allegations had been initiated. Ja’afaru assured the officers that the circumstances surrounding the salary deductions and arrears issue would be carefully examined, urging them to remain patient while the matter is being addressed.
The statement further emphasized that the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, had instructed the Board to take immediate action to uncover the truth behind the claims. Officers from various paramilitary services, including the Civil Defence, Correctional Services, Fire, and Immigration Services, had reportedly expressed their dissatisfaction over the situation, which they feel affects their financial stability.
Ja’afaru reassured the affected officers that the board is committed to resolving the issue swiftly and positively. He urged all paramilitary personnel to stay calm and confident in the investigation process, stressing that the matter would be handled with urgency and transparency.
This investigation comes at a critical time when many officers are experiencing frustrations over financial discrepancies. The outcome of the probe is expected to clarify the situation and restore confidence among the paramilitary officers affected by the alleged salary deductions and promotion arrears delays.
