Adeleke Reaffirms Commitment to Workers’ Welfare in Osun

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has reiterated his dedication to improving the lives of civil servants in the state. During a visit to the state Secretariat in Osogbo on Monday, he pledged to continue pursuing initiatives that would enhance the welfare of workers, particularly considering the recent implementation of the N75,000 new minimum wage.

Adeleke was warmly welcomed by workers, led by the chairmen of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Abimbola Fasasi, and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Christopher Arapasopo. The workers had gathered at the entrance of the Secretariat to show their appreciation for the governor’s efforts, particularly the wage increase. After waiting for hours, they led him to his office at the Bola Ige House, where the governor addressed them.

In his speech, Adeleke emphasized the importance of treating workers with dignity and respect, asserting that neglecting workers’ welfare is a moral failing. He expressed his strong commitment to continuing policies that prioritize the well-being of workers, highlighting that the civil service plays a crucial role in driving the state’s economy, especially as the state works towards agro-industrialization. He pledged that as resources increased, more pro-worker initiatives would be implemented to benefit the state.

Earlier, NLC chairman Christopher Arapasopo praised Adeleke for his significant achievements in workers’ welfare. Arapasopo announced that the workers were so impressed by the governor’s performance that they would officially endorse him for re-election by May Day 2025, expressing confidence in his leadership. He also declared that come 2026, there would be no vacancy in the governor’s office, signalling strong support for Adeleke’s second term.
TUC chairman Abimbola Fasasi also voiced the unions’ unwavering support for Adeleke, describing him as a pro-labour governor. He praised his exceptional efforts in addressing the needs of workers and reaffirmed the unions’ continued backing for his administration.
