The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin (Ige Olakulehin I), has been awarded the prestigious Honorary Fellowship of the Nigerian Institute of Building (NIOB). The recognition was conferred during the two-day South-West Housing Exhibition in Ibadan, with the event taking place at the Olubadan Palace, Oke Aremo, Ibadan, following the opening ceremonies and presentations at the Manhattan Hall in Eleyele, Ibadan.

A statement from the Chief Press Secretary to the Olubadan, Gbenga Ayoade, confirmed the honour, highlighting the significant contributions the monarch has made to the built environment and to the Nigerian nation. The President of NIOB, Builder Alderton Ewa, praised the Olubadan for his deep understanding of the construction industry’s challenges and opportunities, noting that his academic background in Building Technology and his dedication to the profession made him a deserving recipient of the fellowship.

Ewa further emphasized that the fellowship was a recognition of the Olubadan’s outstanding achievements and commitment to excellence. He expressed hope that the award would inspire other members of the building profession to strive for greater success. Ewa also acknowledged that the guidance and support of the Olubadan would be crucial in shaping a brighter future for both Nigeria and the NIOB.

In his acceptance speech, delivered by the Are Ago Balogun of Ibadanland, Chief Lateef Akintola, the Olubadan expressed his gratitude for the honour and pledged to continue supporting the growth and development of the construction industry in Nigeria. The recognition marks a significant moment in the Olubadan’s distinguished leadership and his ongoing influence in advancing key sectors of the nation’s economy.
