The Lagos State government has reiterated its dedication to ensuring the well-being of retirees, pledging continued support and care for pensioners. This assurance was given during the 2024 Pensioners’ Week celebration, where the state’s Head of Service, Bode Agoro, highlighted the importance of recognizing the sacrifices of senior citizens.
Speaking at the event organized by the Lagos State Pension Commission (LASPEC), Agoro praised the retirees as foundational contributors to the state’s development. He assured them that the Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration remains committed to improving their welfare, describing it as both a priority and a moral obligation.
Agoro also lauded the administration’s strides in pension system reforms and the clearing of pension arrears. According to him, these achievements demonstrate the government’s resolve to ensure that pensioners enjoy the fruits of their years of service. “The welfare of our retirees is not just a priority; it is a responsibility we hold dear,” he emphasized.
In his remarks, LASPEC Director-General, Mr. Babalola Obilana, commended Governor Sanwo-Olu for his consistent efforts to address the needs of pensioners. He noted that initiatives such as prompt payment of benefits and systematic reforms have significantly improved the pension system in Lagos State.
The Pensioners’ Week celebration brought together retirees, government officials, and stakeholders to honour the invaluable contributions of Lagos State’s senior citizens. The event underscored the government’s unwavering commitment to supporting pensioners and ensuring they lead dignified lives in retirement.
