The Federal Government has proposed spending N6.36 billion on the renovation and maintenance of residential quarters for President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and other State House facilities, according to the 2025 budget proposal submitted to the National Assembly. The extensive budget allocation has drawn attention amid ongoing discussions about fiscal priorities and economic challenges.
A significant portion of the allocation, N5.49 billion, will go toward the annual maintenance of the Presidential Villa. Additionally, N765 million is set aside for the renovation of the vice president’s quarters and guest house, while N6.39 million is earmarked for the president’s quarters. Other items include N49 million for upgrades to security quarters and facilities like the gymnasium and auditorium and N51 million for repairs at the barracks and mess in Asokoro.
The budget also prioritizes vehicles for the State House, with N3.66 billion allocated for operational vehicles and N1.09 billion set aside for replacing SUVs. Furthermore, N1.83 billion will be used to convert forfeited properties recovered by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) into State House quarters. This follows the EFCC’s recent recovery of a large estate in Abuja, measuring over 150,000 square meters and containing 753 housing units.
In Lagos, N140.10 million has been proposed for the completion and furnishing of the State House Annex at Dodan Barracks, alongside routine maintenance of other State House facilities in the city. The proposed expenditures reflect the administration’s push for infrastructural upgrades but have sparked debates about resource allocation during an economically sensitive period.
