In a nationwide crackdown on criminal activities during the festive season, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) arrested 23 suspects for armed robbery, kidnapping, and gangsterism. The arrests followed directives from Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun, urging police formations to adopt robust anti-crime strategies to ensure public safety.
In Lagos State, police operatives apprehended three suspected hoodlums—Emmanuel Okoli, Ogunde Tejiri, and Emmanuel Orji—after receiving a distress call about their activities in the Safejo area of Amukoko. Armed with dangerous weapons, the gang had reportedly targeted fun seekers during Christmas celebrations. The prompt response by the police led to the recovery of their weapons, with efforts ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang.
Similarly, in Kaduna State, a suspect identified as Sule Muhammad was arrested for his involvement in multiple kidnappings in the Saminaka area. Police operatives recovered a fabricated AK-47 rifle from Muhammad, who confessed to being part of a notorious kidnapping gang. His arrest has sparked intensified efforts to apprehend other gang members and recover additional arms.
Other states, including Delta, Ogun, Katsina, Benue, FCT, and Imo, also recorded commendable successes in combating crime during the holiday season. These operations underscore the vigilance and commitment of police officers to maintaining peace and order during the celebrations.
The IGP commended the operatives for their dedication, urging citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities. He assured the public of the Force’s commitment to ensuring a safe environment for all, emphasizing that the joy of the festive season should not be marred by criminal activities.
