The Federal Government has assured Nigerians that the current minimum wage will be reviewed in less than two years. Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, reaffirmed President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to improving workers’ welfare during a briefing in Umuahia after a meeting with labor leaders in Abia State.
Onyejeocha emphasized that the review aligns with the administration’s promise to reassess the minimum wage every three years. “It used to take about five years, but now, in less than two years, we will review the minimum wage again,” she stated.
The Minister also stressed the importance of maintaining a peaceful and productive environment, urging labor leaders to ensure a strike-free year. She highlighted the vital role of labor in fostering stability and development within the nation.
During the visit, Onyejeocha held a roundtable discussion with the Abia State Council of Traditional Rulers, where she elaborated on various Federal Government policies and initiatives aimed at improving governance and the economy.
Abia’s Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Chairman, Mr. Ogbomna Okoro, commended Onyejeocha for her proactive approach and significant achievements in office. He expressed the union’s readiness to collaborate with her to achieve common goals for workers’ welfare.
