The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned the impeachment of Oredo Local Government Chairman, Tom Obaseki, alleging that the individuals behind the move were impostors and not legitimate councilors.
Tony Aziegbemi, Chairman of the Edo PDP Caretaker Committee, addressed the media on Friday, expressing concern over what he described as a threat to democracy in the state. He called for the intervention of traditional rulers, religious leaders, and security agencies to address the matter and protect elected officials from intimidation.
“We want Nigerians and Edolites to be aware of the ongoing situation in Oredo Local Government, where individuals, who neither contested elections nor have certificates of return, are claiming to have impeached the chairman and leader of the house,” Aziegbemi stated.
He emphasized the need for federal authorities, including the President and Inspector General of Police, to address the issue promptly, warning of the potential rise of dictatorship in the state.
