Two employees of Airtel Communication Nigeria Ltd. and one native of Gumki village in the Arewa Local Government Area of Kebbi State were killed by suspected gunmen who are thought to be members of the Lakurawa terror organization.
According to reports, the terrorists broke into the community while the victims were setting up surveillance masks nearby.
Confirming the report in a statement to journalists in Birnin Kebbi., The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Kebbi State, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, narrated that “On 10/01/2025 at about 2047hrs, suspected Lakurawa bandits invaded a construction site at Gumki village, Arewa LGA, a community between Nigeria and Niger Republic, where staff of Airtel communication Nigeria Ltd were installing a surveillance mask for the Nigeria Immigration Service.”
“As a result, four people lost their lives: one indigene and three staff of the Airtel company.
“On receipt of the report, the Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, CP Bello M Sani, alongside the Comptroller, Nigeria Immigration Service, Kebbi State Command, CIS Muhammad Bashir Lawali, swiftly mobilized to the scene and evacuated the corpses to Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital, Birnin Kebbi.”
According to the command’s spokesperson, Bello Sani, the state commissioner of police, sent out tactical squads and gave them orders to deal forcefully with alleged Lakurawa bandits who were active in the region.
In a discussion with important local stakeholders, he also urged them to constantly provide timely and pertinent information to the police and other security services so that they can respond quickly.
