In Ondo State’s local government elections, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has secured 16 of the 18 chairperson posts.
Ondo West LGA is holding a postponed poll, and Owo LGA is anticipated to produce results, according to ODIEC.
This was announced on Sunday at the Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission’s (ODIEC) offices in Akure by Joseph Aeemo, the commission’s chairman.
He pointed out that Owo LGA is expected to produce results even if the postponed poll is taking place in Ondo West LGA.
In Saturday’s elections, just twelve political parties ran for the positions of chairman and councillor.
Ahead of the poll, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) announced its decision to withdraw from the election, saying it does not believe in the Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission to conduct a credible election.
The names of the 12 political parties contesting in the election include: Action Alliance, Action Democratic Party, Action People’s Party, All Progressives Congress, All Progressives Grand Alliance, Boot Party, and Labour Party.

Prior to Saturday’s vote, the state held its most recent council election on August 23, 2020, and the elected politicians’ terms ended on August 22, 2023.
Since then, civil servants—more especially, the Heads of Local Government Administrations—have been in charge of running the state’s 18 council regions.
However, the Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission ultimately set January 18, 2025, as the date for the election’s conduct after multiple postponements.
