Manchester City have officially announced the signing of 19-year-old Brazilian defender Vitor Reis from Palmeiras. The highly rated centre-back has penned a four-and-a-half-year deal, keeping him at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2029. Known for his composure, leadership, and technical abilities, Reis has already made a significant impact during his short senior career in Brazil.
Speaking about the transfer, Reis expressed excitement about joining one of the world’s top football clubs. “I’m thrilled to join Manchester City. Their recent achievements are incredible, and I want to contribute to winning more trophies. Working with Pep Guardiola is a dream for any young player, and I’m confident he’ll help me reach my full potential,” he said. Reis also highlighted the presence of fellow Brazilians like Ederson and Savinho as an advantage in adapting to his new club.
Reis debuted for Palmeiras in June 2024, making 22 appearances across competitions, including the Copa Libertadores, and helping the team secure a runner-up finish in the Brazilian Serie A. His performances earned him national recognition, as he was named in the prestigious Trofeu Mesa Redonda Team of the Year for 2024. At Manchester City, he is expected to further develop under Guardiola’s guidance while contributing to the team’s defensive depth.
Txiki Begiristain, Manchester City’s Director of Football, praised the new signing, stating, “Vitor Reis is one of the most promising young defenders in the world. His ability on the ball, aerial prowess, and leadership qualities make him a perfect fit for City. We’re confident he can make an impact now and in the future.”
Reis follows in the footsteps of Brazilian players like Gabriel Jesus and Fernandinho, who transitioned from Palmeiras to City and excelled under Guardiola.
