President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration remains steadfast in its commitment to strengthening local government autonomy for the benefit of grassroots development. This was reaffirmed by the Minister for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Zaphaniah Jisalo, during a sporting event in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The Minister appealed to stakeholders to prioritize grassroots sports development, emphasizing its potential to discover young talents and divert youth from crime and social vices.
At the event, Anthony Adeyinka, Special Adviser to the President on Youth and Sports, highlighted the administration’s youth-centric agenda. He mentioned various empowerment programs aimed at equipping young Nigerians with entrepreneurial skills, stressing the President’s dedication to ensuring youth development across the country.
Bitrus Garki, the Mandate Secretary of the FCT, expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for policies integrating rural communities into governance. Garki noted that the government’s deliberate efforts are yielding positive results, particularly in the previously marginalized area councils of the FCT.
Traditional leaders in the region have also voiced their support. Danfulani Narayi, the Zakari of Karu Chiefdom, commended the administration for fostering strong and united communities. He emphasized the importance of events like the sporting competition in uniting the youth and instilling a sense of ownership in community development.
The grassroots football competition, hosted by the FCT Youth Affairs Office, was celebrated as a demonstration of the government’s commitment to empowering young people and engaging them constructively. Stakeholders lauded the initiative as a significant step toward reducing youth unemployment and tackling social issues.
