The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has temporarily suspended access gate fees at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja. The decision, announced on Saturday through a statement signed by FAAN spokesperson Dr. Obiageli Orah, is aimed at alleviating traffic challenges faced by road users near the airport.
The suspension, effective from Friday, January 24, 2025, to Friday, February 7, 2025, is part of the agency’s efforts to ease the travel experience during ongoing construction activities around the airport. Dr. Orah stated, “The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria wishes to inform the general public that all access gates at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, are suspended to alleviate the traffic burden on our airport road users.”
The agency expressed regret over the inconvenience caused by construction-related disruptions, emphasising its commitment to providing smooth travel for passengers and other road users. FAAN’s action reflects a responsive approach to public concerns, particularly at one of Nigeria’s busiest airports.
The suspension has been welcomed by many travellers and stakeholders as a proactive measure to reduce congestion and delays. However, this temporary reprieve will allow travelers and airport visitors to navigate the roads more easily during the construction phase. FAAN has pledged to continue monitoring the situation to ensure minimal disruption for road users and passengers.
