Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering support for the Nigerian Army and other security agencies in their mission to eradicate insurgency in the state. The governor made this pledge during a courtesy visit by the Chief of Army Staff (CoAS), Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, in Damaturu, the state capital, on Sunday.
Commending the military’s efforts, Buni emphasized the significant progress made in securing all 17 local government areas, allowing residents to move freely and pursue legitimate business activities. He noted that this relative peace has enabled the government to implement developmental policies and programs aimed at improving the lives of citizens.
“The security attained across the state affords the government the opportunity to execute its policies and programs to improve the lives of our people unhindered,” the governor remarked. However, he called for intensified patrols along border areas to prevent insurgents from infiltrating and targeting vulnerable communities.
Lt.-Gen. Oluyede, in his response, assured the governor of the military’s dedication to ending insurgency and banditry in Yobe and across the nation. The army chief expressed his determination to leverage his knowledge of the state’s terrain to dislodge insurgents swiftly.
“It is my personal ambition to see the end of this menace as fast as possible, and I call for support from our political leaders and Nigerians to achieve this goal,” Oluyede stated.
