The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mojisola Meranda, has officially moved into the Speaker’s office at the Lagos State House of Assembly Complex.
Following the former speaker Mudashiru Obasa’s outburst and insistence that he remained the speaker of the Lagos State Assembly, there was heightened tension concerning the resumption of Miranda.
The new Speaker was accompanied into her new office by members of the State Assembly.
A prayer session was held on her behalf, as well as for other members of the House, for smooth leadership of the assembly and collaboration among the honourable members of the House.
Today’s plenary has been adjourned to a later date by the leadership of the house, Rt. Hon. Mojisola Meranda.
While today’s plenary is the third session presided over by Meranda since Obasa’s removal, the former speaker was absent at the last two sittings. Mudashiru Obasa was absent from plenary on Monday despite insisting that he remained the speaker of the Lagos House of Assembly following his impeachment.
There was also a heavy presence of police officers around the Assembly premises on Monday as Meranda officially assumed office as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly
At the plenary on Monday, the rest of the lawmakers, 39 in number, including the current Speaker, Mojisola Meranda, except Obasa, were seen gathering within the premises of the assembly for a group photograph.
Over the weekend, the troubled former speaker insisted on continuing to serve as the Lagos Assembly’s speaker.
He maintained that due process was not followed in his impeachment.
Meranda is anticipated to designate chairmen to lead standing committees that would supervise the operations of Lagos State’s Ministries, Departments, and Agencies today.
