At the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Secretariat in Abuja, supporters of Samuel Anyanwu, the party’s embattled National Secretary, clashed with supporters of Udeh Okoye, who is also a candidate for the position, during the party’s Board of Trustees meeting.
Udeh Okoye and Samuel Anyanwu are vying for the position of national secretary of the party.
The chairman, Adolphus Wabara, presided over the meeting, which was attended by other notable members such as the party’s acting national chairman, Umar Damagun; ex-Niger governor Babangida Aliyu; ex-Kaduna governor Ahmed Markafi; and ex-Jigawa governor Sule Lamido.
The BoT, as the party’s conscience, scheduled the conference to discuss the national secretary problem, which has divided the PDP National Working Committee into two groups.
However, the BoT conference was disrupted by violent clashes between members of both camps over the unresolved issue.
Security at the Wadata Plaza has now been enhanced, with more police and Department of State Services officers on duty.
Soldiers and officers from the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) were also present during the event.
