The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has launched a safety assessment of commercial airline Max Air following a tyre rupture while landing at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) on Tuesday night.
It was discovered that the aircraft may have lost its nose landing gear tyre, resulting in the mishap.
According to report, the audit started immediately after the event on Tuesday at 10:57 pm, when Flight VM1605, which had departed from Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA) in Lagos, landed in Kano.
The plane experienced a tyre burst, sparking fear among passengers, but everyone on board was successfully evacuated with no significant injuries.
One of the passengers, Abdullahi Ibrahim, described the situation onboard as tight. He stated, “As soon as we landed, there was a loud noise, and the plane shook violently. Several passengers began praying, but the crew assured us that everything was under control. We’re just grateful to be safe.”
Attempts to contact Max Air authorities for an official statement were fruitless as of the time of filing this report. However, aviation experts have informed the public that, while these instances are troubling, they are not uncommon in the sector.
Meanwhile, normal flight operations at Kano Airport have resumed, with authorities attempting to remove the stricken aircraft from the runway.
