Oyo State has announced the conversion of 1,591 ad-hoc local council workers into permanent staff, fulfilling a promise made by Governor Seyi Makinde. The decision is expected to help address workforce gaps at the local government level, strengthening the administrative framework of the 33 councils across the state.
The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Ademola Ojo, confirmed the news, noting that the workers’ appointment letters would be available for collection between February 3 and February 6, 2025. This move comes as part of Governor Makinde’s ongoing efforts to improve the state’s local government workforce, which he had initiated in October 2024.
The collection of appointment letters will follow a clear schedule, with workers in various categories expected to collect their letters on specific days. Administrative Officers, Agricultural Officers, Environmental Health Officers, and others in technical and professional roles will collect their letters on February 3. Those in clerical positions are scheduled for February 4, while workers in maintenance and service roles, such as drivers and cleaners, will collect theirs on February 5 and 6, respectively.
Ojo emphasized that the collection of appointment letters by proxy would not be allowed, and all successful candidates are to collect their documents in person from the Local Government Service Commission during the specified hours. The commissioner wished all successful applicants success in their new roles, highlighting the importance of following due process throughout the employment procedure.
