Mohammed El-Rufai Backs Probe into Father’s Tenure, Calls for Fairness in Investigations

Mohammed El-Rufai, the eldest son of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has voiced his support for an investigation into his father’s administration. In an interview with BBC Hausa, Mohammed emphasized that while accountability in governance is important, the probe must be conducted with impartiality and fairness. He stressed that any investigation should prioritize uncovering the facts rather than being used as a means to settle personal scores or advance political agendas.

The lawmaker, who represents Kaduna North Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, made it clear that he was not against holding leaders accountable for their actions, but he cautioned that such processes must not be tainted by ulterior motives. He urged the authorities to focus on transparency and objective facts, rather than allowing political interests to influence the investigation.

Mohammed further clarified that any political probe must not serve to destabilize the state or distract from progress. He argued that when investigations are driven by personal vendettas or political power struggles, they could end up hindering development, which would ultimately harm the people. His message is one of caution against using probes as a weapon for political retribution.

Regarding the ongoing strained relationship between his father and Governor Uba Sani, Mohammed said he does not believe it is his responsibility to mediate between the two. Despite the media’s portrayal of their differences, he downplayed the significance of the conflict, suggesting that the issue has been exaggerated. He described the tensions as a “cold war” that should not overshadow the focus on governance.

However, the lawmaker did express his personal disappointment over the rift, considering the important roles both his father and Governor Sani played in his life. He acknowledged the significance of their political partnership, which had shaped his own political aspirations. Despite the family’s internal tensions, Mohammed reiterated that his priority remains to serve his constituents effectively.
