AS Roma is on the verge of securing a contract extension for Mile Svilar, aiming to fend off growing interest from Premier League clubs, including Manchester City and West Ham. The 25-year-old goalkeeper has impressed since his promotion to Roma’s first-choice shot-stopper, prompting the club to accelerate renewal talks.
Initially signed from Benfica in 2022, Svilar was expected to play a backup role to Rui Patrício. However, his performances under Daniele De Rossi last season solidified his place as the club’s undisputed No. 1, ultimately leading to the departure of the veteran Portuguese keeper.
Roma is moving swiftly to finalize a four-year contract extension for the Belgian-Serbian goalkeeper. The proposed deal would see his salary increase to around €3 million per year, a significant jump reflecting his growing importance within the squad.

A crucial point in negotiations is the inclusion of a release clause, which Roma is reportedly willing to accept. However, the club insists on a figure exceeding €40 million, ensuring that any potential suitors must pay a premium to lure him away. This clause would likely apply only to foreign clubs, giving Roma more leverage in Serie A.
Svilar’s performances have attracted intense interest from England, with West Ham making inquiries last summer and Manchester City reportedly monitoring him since January. Despite these overtures, Roma has remained firm in their desire to keep their rising star, recognizing his potential to be a key figure for years to come.
