Media sources have confirmed the release of a former director-general of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Maharazu Tsiga, on Friday by his kidnappers after he spent almost a month in captivity.
Although it was unclear whether ransom was paid for his eventual release, it was gathered that gunmen led by notorious bandit kingpin Babaro demanded N250m for Tsiga’s release.
A source confirmed to the media that the former NYSC DG has regained his freedom. For security concerns, the source claimed, General Tsiga is being treated at an unidentified hospital.
As at time of this report, neither government representatives nor security organizations, such as the Katsina State Police Command, had commented on Tsiga’s release.
On February 6, 2025, an unknown number of bandits kidnapped the former NYSC DG from his home in Tsiga village, Bakori Local Government Area, Katsina State.
During the attack, two persons sustained various degrees of injuries. One of the gunmen was mistakenly shot dead by a member of his gang.
