Real Madrid secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Atletico Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League round of

16 tie on Tuesday. The match, played at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium, was a thrilling encounter that saw both

teams create numerous scoring opportunities.

The win gives Real Madrid a slender advantage ahead of the second leg, which will be played at the Wanda

Metropolitano stadium on March 19. Atletico Madrid will need to overcome the deficit if they hope to progress to the

quarterfinals.

Brahim Diaz was the hero for Real Madrid, scoring the winning goal in the 55th minute. The Spanish midfielder curled

a low shot into the far corner of the net, leaving Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak with no chance.

Atletico Madrid had taken the lead in the 19th minute through Julian Alvarez, but Real Madrid equalized just before

halftime through Rodrygo. The Brazilian winger scored with a powerful shot that Oblak could only parry into the net.

The match was a intense and physical encounter, with both teams committing fouls and receiving yellow cards.

Atletico Madrid’s Marcos Llorente was booked in the first half, while Real Madrid’s Eduardo Camavinga received a

yellow card in the second half.

Despite the loss, Atletico Madrid will take heart from their performance, which saw them create several scoring

opportunities. The team will need to be more clinical in front of goal if they hope to overturn the deficit in the second

leg.

Real Madrid, meanwhile, will be looking to build on their win and secure a place in the quarterfinals. The team has a

rich history in the Champions League, having won the competition a record 15 times.

The second leg promises to be an exciting encounter, with both teams likely to adopt an attacking approach. Atletico

Madrid will need to score at least two goals to have any chance of progressing, while Real Madrid will be looking to

score an away goal to give themselves a cushion.
